MIDDLETON — The Boston Lobsters tennis team announced its 2010 schedule, one that is filled with top stars from around the world of professional tennis.
The Lobsters, who play their home matches on the courts at Ferncroft Country Club, will begin their World Team Tennis Pro League schedule on Tuesday, July 6 against Kansas City.
James Blake will play for the Lobsters two nights later against the N.Y. Sportimes. On July 11, Martina Hingis comes to town with the N.Y. Buzz to face the Lobsters, and the Springfield (Miss.) Lasers visit on July 13.
The sixth annual Boston Lobsters Family Day will be held on July 17. On July 19, world renowned Anna Kournikova will come to town with the St. Louis Aces. Three nights later, the highly regarded Washington Kastles return to Middleton to wrap up the season prior to the WTT Pro League playoffs.
Opening night will be presented by Beverly Hospital in recognition of local people who give back in the North Shore communities, in partnership with The Salem News. The Boston Lobsters will play against Kansas City.
James Blake has a career high ranking of No. 4 in the world in addition to 10 singles titles, five doubles titles, and he has played for the US Davis Cup Team for many years (serving as a member of the winning team in 2007).
"We are also quite excited to host Anna Kournikova when the St. Louis Aces visit Boston this summer," said Lobsters' CEO Bahar Uttam.
Kournikova has 16 doubles titles, including the Australian Open (with Hingis) and one singles title. She was one of five female tennis players named to Forbes magazine's Power 100 in Fame and Fortune list at No. 58; no other female athletes made the list. She is the recipient of the 1999 WTA Tour Doubles Team of the Year Award with Hingis and 1996 WTA Tour Most Impressive Newcomer Award.
Hingis returns to the court with the New York Buzz this year. This is the third WTT season for Hingis, who was named the 2005 WTT Finals MVP. A former World No. 1 in both singles and doubles, Hingis has a total of 15 career Grand Slam titles (5 singles, 9 doubles, 1 mixed).
Season tickets are now on sale for the Lobsters, while individual match date tickets officially go on sale to the public April 15. Group parties of 10 or more are on sale now as well.
