Taking aim at the Green Monster on one team were Prep players R. J. and Dom Pizzano along with their father Rudi, Sean Smerczynski and his father Mike, former Eagle offensive tackle John Riccio (2010 graduate), and NFL player agent Sean Stellato, who was just inducted into the Salem High Hall of Fame, along with his coach Ken Perrone. They tried out their softball skills for a great cause and had a lot of fun doing it.
Abbey D’Agostino came up a little short of her goal to finish in the top three at the US Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Oregon and an automatic berth on the American team that will travel to Moscow in August for the World Championships. The Dartmouth college junior from Topsfield was the top collegiate runner in the 5000 meter race in 15:39.
There is still a chance that D’Agostino, who is the NCAA champ, could be added to the team if a couple of runners ahead of her opt out of the 5000 to compete in another event in Moscow. If that does happen, D’Agostino would be ready to step in.
