Peabody High swim star Julie Shea and Beverly High standout Connor Flynn were named the Female and Male Swimmers of the Year, respectively, as the Northeastern Conference announced its annual all-star team yesterday.
Shea, one of nine Tanners named to the NEC all-star team, set a new school record in the 200 IM this winter and also dominated in the 100 breaststroke. Flynn was a speedster in the pool for the Panthers, specializing in the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly.
Conference champion Marblehead paced the all-star team with 13 student-athletes, including Sophie Zmetnovich, Megan Alexander, Ryan Alexander, Toireasa Rafferty-Millett, Sara Daher, Hannah Verrette, Tyler Phillips, Harrison Rodts, Charles Seltzer, Zach Romanosky, Austin Harshbarger, Ryan Hoey and Jake Driscoll.
The eight all-stars chosen from Beverly included Kaitlyn O'Connor, Riley LeBlanc, Emily Walsh, Keely Higgins, Jon Ouimet, Rebecca Greenberg, Rachel Grant and Flynn.
Peabody's all-stars were Stephen Demede, Christine Shea, Pat Jwanowski, Zack Melville, Meghan Louvey, Holly Smith, Alex Guay, John Slate-Ramano and Julie Shea.
Danvers was represented on the all-star team by the quintet of Ethan Collins, Anna Dokina, Tori Ganley, Josh Mentzer and Tommy Giannino.
Five swimmers from Salem were chosen for the squad: Emily Grand, Erin Gard, Kevin Clyne, Julie Nguyen and Joni Begi. So were five from Swampscott: Tobin Bartdo, Alexa Baldacci, Cymantha Rogers, Danielle Mayblyum and Mischa Kuyzov.
The remainder of the all-stars were Rachael Thomas, Mac St. Ives and Brian Nelson of Lynn Classical; Matt Demirs, Brandie Holland and Mike Bruno of Lynn English; and Ryan Tran and Mekdad Elbehisi of Revere.
Sue Guertin, who guided Marblehead High to yet another NEC championship this winter, was named the conference's Coach of the Year. Lynn Classical took home the Team Sportsmanship Award as well.
