Tanners tripped up by Melrose

NORTH SHORE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

MELROSE 47, PEABODY 39: In the winner's bracket final, Peabody fell to Melrose despite Jon Byrne's 15 points and a nine point effort from Kyle Boyce. Melrose's Matt Sherlock led all scorers with 18, while his teamate Nate Trippe wasn't far behind with 17.

BEVERLY 57, GLOUCESTER 41: Chris Keaton tallied 17 while Zach Zigelbaum added 11 to power Beverly past Gloucester. Adam Philpott scored 13 and Mike Tomano added eight in the losing effort.

With the win, Melrose automatically advances to the finals, which will be held on Tuesday at 7:30. Peabody and Beverly will now meet in the loser's bracket final on Monday at 7:30. Also in action on Monday night will be the girls of Beverly 1 and Bishop Fenwick, who meet at 8:30 in the loser's bracket final to determine who will play Danvers on Wednesday night at 7:30 in the girls championship.

nORTH sHORE 9, North Adams 2: The Navigators (24-16), who clinched their second straight NECBL playoff berth Wednesday night, continued their charge towards the East Division title with a big win at Fraser Field. Matt Hamlet drove in three runs to help break the game open while Jason Banos, Braxton Graven, Bryce Tafelski, Cody Dent and Garret Smith also drove in runs. Nolan Corr threw five innings and earned the win while Dan Duval threw a scorless frame out of the bullpen. Graven extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
