Beverly wins two, drops one: The Panthers improved to 7-4 by winning two of three matches in a quad meet this weekend. Beverly defeated Northbridge (35-30) and Canton (42-35), but lost to Pembroke (51-24). Senior Brendan McGee was the only Panther to win all three of his matches, completing the trifecta at 170 pounds.
Luke McDonald (152), Tom Wilbur (160), and Joe Kozlowski (132) each won two matches for Beverly, while seniors John Feliciano and Dave Rollins each recorded their first varsity wins, both at 195 pounds.
St. John’s goes 3-1: St. John’s Prep picked up wins over Algonquin (69-11), North Attleboro (44-19), and Bridgewater-Raynham (39-28), but dropped a 30-24 decision to Plymouth South. D.J. Lemieux (126 pounds), Jared Costa (138), Ian Butterbrodt (220), and Corey Jean-Jacques (285) each had four wins for the Eagles (23-2). Costa picked up his 100th career win with a pin against Bridgewater-Raynham.
Danvers/North Reading 138.6, Peabody 108.15: Senior captain Roni Levine was first on vault (9.25), beam (9.1), and floor (9.05) and captured the all-around (35.6) to power Danvers/NR. Julia Valenti, a freshman from North Reading, was second in all-around with a 34.4. Valenti was first on bars (8.5), second on floor (8.7), and third on vault (8.8).
Emily McPherson added second-place finishes on bars (8.4) and beam (8.9).
Peabody’s Samantha Kinnaly was third in all-around with a 30.1.
Weigand runs strong for H-W: Sophomore Emily Weigand finished first in the mile (5:31.67) at this weekend’s Auerbach Freshman/Sophomore Meet at Reggie Lewis Center. Weigand also anchored the 4x400 meter relay team of Kristen Heffernan, Meghan Stone and Fiona Worsfold, which finished fifth overall (4:31.25). Stone qualified for the Division 4 state meet in 1000 with a time of 3:25.
Also in the Auerbach small school meet, Ipswich’s Michaela Hedderman was second in the 300 with a time of 43.95 and Marblehead’s 4x400 relay team won with a time of 4:22.
Austin Prep 87, Bishop Fenwick 83: Despite loosing its second straight meet, Fenwick won all three of the relays on Saturday. Carson Christuk was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, and was member of two of the wining relay teams. Matthew O’Brien (50 free), Bridgette Townsend (500 free) and Jimmy Gauthier (100 breaststroke) also had first place finishes for the Crusaders (0-2).
