---- — It will be a busy weekend for area boys and girls playing winter sports.

The Elmo Benedetto Jamboree for boys basketball kicks things off tonight at Lynn Classical High School. Then it'll be the girls’ turn tomorrow in the 20th annual Paul Duchane girls basketball event, also at Classical. Finally, hockey takes center stage on Sunday during the seventh annual Salem State University Jamboree at the Rocket Arena.

The Benedetto Jamboree starts tonight at 5:45 p.m. when Winthrop-Revere clash followed by Marblehead-Beverly (6:20 p.m.); Saugus-Peabody (6:55), Salem-Lynn Tech (7:30), Swampscott-St. Mary’s (8:05), St. John’s Prep-Lynn English (8:40) and Bishop Fenwick-Lynn Classical (9:15). All games will consist of two 8-minute periods, and admission is $5 with proceeds going to fund scholarships.

“We’re excited to be in it,” said Prep head coach Sean Connolly. “We have a lot of young kids and this is a good atmosphere for them, especially going up against a great team like English. We’ll get a good chance to see where we’re at.”

There are 11 games for the Duchane Jamboree tomorrow, beginning with Lynn Tech vs. Mt. Alvernia at 2 p.m. followed by Saugus-Malden (2:40), Winthrop-North Reading (3:20), Marblehead-Lynnfield (4), Swampscott-Bishop Fenwick (4:40), Danvers-Wilmington (5:20), Beverly-Medford (6), Peabody-Masconomet (6:40), Lynn English-Reading (7:20), Revere-St. Mary’s Lynn (8) and Lynn Classical-Hamilton-Wenham (8:40). Again, all games will consist of two 8-minute periods.

“We’ll have a good test with Masconomet,” said Peabody head coach Jane Heil. “All the coaches in Lynn all have been good to Peabody girls’ basketball over the years. This is a fundraiser for them, and it acts as a dress rehearsal for the teams. The kids get to wear their uniforms and it gives us an opportunity to look at some of the other teams."

The puck will be dropped at 11 a.m. Sunday when Revere and Winthrop take the ice to SSU Jamboree. Peabody will have a tough test against Acton-Boxboro at 12:30, Saugus-Marblehead follows at 2, and Lynn takes on Salem at 3:30. The final game features Swampscott against Danvers at 5 p.m. All games consist of two 25-minute running time periods.
