Beverly 53, Lynn Classical 45: The Panthers trailed 21-20 at halftime, but went on a 21-7 run in the third quarter which propelled them to victory.
“That third quarter run really helped us,” said Beverly head coach Scott Lewis. “We had really good balance and were able to hold them off in the fourth.”
Jonangel Franco recorded 10 points, six assists and eight rebounds for Beverly. Cam Rogers added nine rebounds to go along with his 15 points, while Nick Cross dropped in 13 points.
Minuteman 58, Ns Tech/Essex Aggie 46: The Bulldogs (0-2) had a tough time on the glass and fell to unbeaten Minuteman on the road. Elijah Alfred led the Tech offense with 13 points and Yordanny Sanchez chipped in 11.
Pentucket 60, Masconomet 55: The Chieftains were in it until the final possession but the Sachems made the plays down the stretch. Masco (0-2) fell to 0-1 in Cape Ann League play.
Cardinal Spellman 64, Bp. Fenwick 43: The Crusaders (1-1) led by one at halftime and by five into the third quarter, but were plagued by turnovers in the later stages of the game. Matt Costello scored 13 points and had eight rebounds for Fenwick and Dom Luoni had nine points and five assists.
Triton 36, Hamilton-Wenham 30: James Foye (14 points, nine rebounds) and Henry Eagar (12 points, eight rebounds) did the bulk of the damage for the Generals (0-1).
Amesbury 47, Ipswich 38: The Tigers (0-2) held Amesbury to eight points in the third quarter, but the Indians bounced back in the fourth to win. Erik Fyrer scored 16 points for Ipswich and junior Quinn O’Connor had a solid outing with 14.
Pingree 81, Bancroft 32: Freshman Justin Assad scored 17 points as the Highlanders rode an early 29-4 run to a home opening win. Johnny Spears had 10 points and nine assists and freshman Alonzo Jackson scored 10 with nine rebounds for Pingree (2-2, 2-0 EIL).
Danvers 47, Marblehead 30: The Falcons clamped down in the second half, switching to a zone defense and holding Marblehead to seven points on their way to the win. Emily McNulty scored nine of her 15 points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds for Danvers (1-0) and Kasey Sherry (four 3’s) scored 16 points.
