Beverly boys handle Classical in opener

McKenna Barrett led the Magicians (1-1) with 11 points and Emily Freedland scored eight with four boards.

Hamilton-Wenham 59, Triton 26: The Generals (2-0) used a team effort and supreme ball movement to stay unbeaten on the season. Sue Rose dished out nine assists and grabbed five rebounds for the winners while Sam Charrette pulled down nine boards and Leslie Bynum came up with eight.

Bp. Fenwick 44, Cardinal Spellman 25: The Crusaders held Spellman to just nine field goals and earned their first win of the season in improving to 1-1. Chandler Wilder had a team-high 12 points while Kate Lipka added nine pints, six rebounds and two steals. Gianna Pizzano had eight points and three steals for Fenwick, which led by ten at the half and extended the lead with a big third quarter.

Ipswich 66, Amesbury 21: The Tigers (1-0) opened up with a victory as sophomore Masey Zegarowski scored 18 points and Julia Davis added a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Caroline Soucy scored 11 points and had six steals for Ipswich, which was in control 36-7 at halftime.

Georgetown 68, Rockport 23: Marisa Agganis led all scorers with 27 points and 13 steals and Kristin Hogan scored 24 with five steals for Georgetown (1-1).

Lynn classical 47, Beverly 29: Andrea Zelano scored nine points, Bridget Keaton grabbed seven rebounds, and Kate Silvestri played well defensively, but it wasn’t enough for Beverly (0-2).

Minuteman 37, North Shore 28: Christa Leger and Jassiel Abreu each had six points and Kaera Wyse pitched in five points but the Bulldogs dropped to 0-2.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Masconomet 4, St. Joseph’s Prep 1: Freshman Meghan Hubbard notched two goals and the Chieftains scored all four of their tallies in the third period to win their season opener on the road. Senior Nancy Palermo and sophomore Dana Valletti also scored and Sydney Sheerin and Lily Dow doled out assists. Alex Jones earned the win in net.
