Area roundup: Peabody baseball starts with win over defending state champs



Marblehead 105, Beverly 28: Beverly 28: The Magicians got off to a great start thanks to triple-winner Josh Beloff and double-winner Conrad Rousseau. Beloff was first in the 200, long jump and triple jump, while Rousseau captured the 400 hurdles and 110 hurdles. Mitch Norcross (high jump) and Alex Blayer (javelin) also had impressive wins for Marblehead (1-0).

Dylan Perry was first in the mile (4:48.1) for the Panthers (0-1) yesterday afternoon. Michael Black too the 800 (2:11.7) and Alex Grco won the 400 (53.9).

Salem 105, Winthrop 21: Jon Crimble won the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump to power the Witches in their season-opening victory. Aaron Palmer added wins in the 110 hurdles and discus, and Jerry Canada (400 hurdles), Jared Robinson (2-mile), Nick Phelan (mile), Ananb Petel (800), Ben Sattiewhite (high jump) and Jared Louf-Woods (shot put) also won events for Salem.


st. john’s pREP 3, sT. jOHN’S sHREWSBURY 0: The Eagles (2-0) won in straight sets to conference rival, 25-15, 25-22, 25-9. Senior middle hitter Eric O’Connor had nine kills, sophomore Jake Burt finished with six kills and four blocks.


Brandeis 11, Endicott 4: The Gulls committed five errors and suffered their second straight loss as a result. Brett Holmgren and Conor Ressel each went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI, while Cody Hall added two hits and two runs.
