Tuesday's Area Roundup: Hamilton-Wenham boys tennis opens with victory


Swampscott 71 1/2: Salem 66.5: The meet was tied heading into the 4x400 relay, where Swampscott’s Peter Hale, Ian Munnelly, Bennett Smith and Marco Schibelli won the event (3:52). Noah Conti double in the 400 (61.1) and 800 (2:07), while Robbie McLaughlin was first in the 2 mile (10:50). Hale was first in the mile (4:46), Rob Seymour took the shot (49-1) and Aiden Brawley won the javelin (143) for the Big Blue (1-1).

Junior John Crimble took first in the 100, 400 and long jump and qualified for states in all three events for Salem (1-1). Aaron Palmer was a triple winner in the 110 hurdles, 200 and discus.


Roger Williams 9, Salem State 2: Ryan Beliveau drove in a run and Richard Fecteau had two hits but Salem State dropped to 10-10 on the season. Peabody’s Genaro Ciulla also had a hit and Bishop Fenwick graduate Kevin Church threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.


Endicott Sweeps Gordon: Cameron Sprague threw a no-hitter for the Gulls as they took both games of their doubleheader against Gordon yesterday. Endicott (6-10) won 11-0 in the first game as junior shortstop Kelley Michael drove in three runs and junior pitcher Nell O’Connor had her third shutout of the season. In game 2, Sprague struck out nine batters while collecting her first victory of the season. She did not allow a walk and was one error away from pitching a perfect game.


Salem State 8, MIT 4: Ben Melaugh scored and dished out three assists and Kyle Dolan and Ian Abrahamson each scored two goals as the Vikings (7-3) prevailed at home.

Endicott 12, Tufts 10: The Gulls (9-3) extended their win streak to six games after taking down nationally ranked Tufts. Freshman goalie Cameron Bell made 13 saves in the victory, while Connor McCormack led the scoring attack with three goals. Joshua Tordik, Nick Pinciaro and Kyle Weber each had a pair of goals for Endicott.
