Gordon laxmen earn first win of the season


Gordon 11, Maine Maritime 7: Sophomore Mio Sison figured in seven of Gordon’s 11 goals, scoring three and assisting on four more, as the Scots (1-3) earned their first win of the season yesterday at home. Sam Spellman scored three times for Gordon and Jordan Heckelmann had a goal and two assists. Dominic Dantona led the Scots with seven ground balls and Peter Kovacevic won 10 faceoffs.


Endicott 3, Daniel Webster 3: The Gulls trailed by a set but rallied to win 27-25, 23-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12 and remained undefeated in New England Collegiate Conference play. Travis Netherton had 17 kills and Mike Coniglione recorded 13 finishes to lead Endicott’s offense while Tyler Bacon dished out 39 assists. Endicott improved to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in conference play while handing the hosts from Daniel Webster their first NECC loss of the season.


Marblehead/Swampscott’s taylor shines at New Englands: Heavyweight Sean Taylor of Marblehead finished 2-2 at this past weekend’s New England Wrestling Championships. The team co-captain pinned John Ware of Manchester (N.H.) West in the first period at 1:02, then bested Wolfgang Flasconaro of Windham, the Connecticut state champion, 7-2. The two-time Salem News all-star finished his high school career with a 87-28 mark in just two-and-a-half years as a wrestler.
