Wednesday's area roundup: Prep soccer clinches Catholic Conference crown



Masco 19, Ipswich 44: Masco (9-1) grabbed nine of the top 10 spots with senior captain Harry Kent (16:28) taking first place while Danny Cosgrove and Kyle Faddis came in together with a time of 17:21 to take the third and fourth places. Senior captain Kevin Martin (17:36) and Baxter Demers (18:01) took fifth and sixth respectively for the Chieftains while Mike Riddle (16:54) was second overall for Ipswich.

North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 25, Mystic Valley 32: Phil Simonton grabbed first place for NST/EA (6-0) while Mike Tilton, Doug Wilson and Brendan Hurley took third, fourth and seventh respectively.

Hamilton-Wenham 20, Pentucket 38: Matt Gillis came in first overall in a time of 16:43, as the Generals move to 8-2 on the season. Michael Allara (17:07) finished second, while John Blatchford (17:23) came in third.


Masco 23, Ipswich 36: Meghan Collins claimed first place with a time of 19:02 and Kathleen Gillespie took third (20:36) as Masco improved to 9-1. Abby Greenslade (20:37) was fourth, Kim Cosgrove (21:22) took seventh and Gwen Ellis (21:32) came in eighth for the Chieftains.

Ipswich sophomore Emily DeMarco (20:01) finished second overall, while Annie Zampitella (20:54) was fifth.

Mystic Valley 25, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 31: Jessie O’Neil was third place but the Hawks dropped to 4-2. Alexa Marquis was fourth for NST/EA while Korina Rosario came in seventh.

Hamilton-Wenham 14, Pentucket 50: Emily Weigand set a new course record after winning yesterday’s race in 19:40. Jeanine Zheng (19:44), Olivia Horgan (19:51), Emily Horgan (20:02) and Amanda Bernett (20:13) also had strong finishes for the undefeated Generals (10-0).


Gordon 2, Plymouth State 1: Senior Taylor McSherry and sophomore Jamie Breton notched the goals for the Scots (13-2), while senior Kendra Woudenberg set up both of her team’s goals.


Gordon 5, western New England 1: Courtney Scott score three goals to help the Scots improve to 11-4 on the season and 6-2 in the CCC. Grace Fabry and Megan Willeman also had scores in the victory, Shannon Hicks and Anna Bury combined for seven saves in net.

endicott 6, Roger Williams 2: Five different Gulls scored in the contest, while junior Emily Sawchuck tallied two. Morgan Bresnahan, Mackenzie Hurst, Amanda Glynn and Stacie Teevens also put in goals for Endicott (7-7).


UMass Dartmouth 6, Salem State 3: The Vikings slip to 3-8 overall, but saw wins from sophomore Tara Garvey (No. 4 singles) and Hillary Gustafson (No. 6 singles), while Garvey and her No. 3 doubles partner Emily Yanchun earned a win (8-3).
