As one of the greatest players in program history, Beverly High field hockey captain Nicole Woods picked a perfect time to play one of her best games.
Woods had two goals and an assist while teammate Grace Otterbein also netted a pair of goals as the Beverly High field hockey team captured its sixth straight Northeastern Conference title yesterday with a 6-0 triumph over Marblehead.
The Panthers (12-0 NEC, 13-1 overall) also got goals from Allie Sheehan and Hannah Silvestri while Kate Silvestri, Alicia Cecchini and Chloe O’Gorman added assists. Felicity Otterbein earned the shutout without having to make a single save for the Orange-and-Black, which also got standout performances from defenders Camden Vitale and sophomore Melissa Laganis.
“It was a really strong team effort. We moved the ball well and transitioned it from left to right very well,” said head coach Trisha Murphy after career victory No. 101. “Nicole was really able to anchor in with the transitions, calling for plays, and her stick skills really stood out. She was able to do what she did despite (Marblehead) having two girls covering her almost the entire game.”
For Marblehead (10-5-1), Grace Perry had an outstanding overall game and Suzeanne McCarthy also played very well.
