Monday's area roundup: Fenwick volleyball sets new program record for straight wins

VOLLEYBALL

Bishop Fenwick 3, Central Catholic 2: Trailing two sets to one, the Crusaders toughened up in the fourth and fifth sets to prevail in a 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-13, 15-9 thriller. Senior captains Kate Lipka (29 kills, 4 blocks), Gianna Pizzano (19 kills, 27 digs), Jen Crovo (14 kills, 30 digs) and Tessa McLaughlin (50 assists) were all dominant for the 15-1 Crusaders, while fellow senior Olivia Morsey added 30 digs.

Peabody 3, Revere 1: The undefeated Tanners (17-0) won their 34th straight regular season match 25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-17. Carolyn Scacchi had 13 kills, four aces and six blocks to lead the way while Courtney Bua had six kills and Madison Mahoney had a strong defensive game with 14 digs.

Masconomet 3, Wilmington 1: Junior setter Katherine McManus had 21 assists, 10 digs and nine aces to help the Chieftains win 23-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17. Maddie Kelly had 23 digs along with eight kills and three blocks to help Masco (10-6) qualify for the state tournament.

Swampscott 3, Winthrop 0: The Big Blue climbed to 9-7 on the season by prevailing 25-13, 25-19, 25-12. Outside hitter Gina Asipenko had 17 kills and Louisy Cim served 10 aces and had five kills.

Salem 3, Marblehead 2: Hannah Mullarkey led the Witches (13-6) with eight kills, 13 aces and nine digs in five sets (25-8, 18-25, 24-26, 25-12, 15-3). Middle hitter Julia Florence added nine kills and pair of blocks, while Kayti Lefrancois recorded 20 digs and 17 service points.

NST/Essex Aggie 3, Billerica 1: Isabel Camancho finished 16 of 18 serving, including one ace, 11 kills and two blocks for the Hawks (7-10). Zaidee Morrissey was 12-for-12 serving and Casey Harris added four aces and three kills.

Pingree 3, Beaver Country Day 1: Captain Casey Torto had a strong game defensively with 12 digs as the Highlanders move to 6-8 overall. Hanna Stasiuk recorded six kills, setter Haley Sabino added nine assists for Pingree, which one in four sets (21-25, 25-11, 25-19, 25-10).

Beverly 3, Lynn English 2: Beverly (12-6) one a close one 25-15, 23-25, 25-27, 25-12, 15-8. Alex Kelliher had seven kills, while Kristen Abbondanza had 23 service points with five aces and Ally Cabral served for 16 points.

FIELD HOCKEY

Beverly 1, Andover 1: Playing against one of the state’s true powerhouses on the road, the Panthers knotted it up with three minutes to play as Kate Silvestri fed her sister Hannah Silvestri off a corner for the game-tying goal. Mary Cate Flaherty, Amanda Marshall and Nicole Woods also had fine games for Beverly (14-1-1).
