GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Bishop Fenwick saw five girls place in the top 20 of yesterdays Catholic Central League Meet but it wasn’t enough to upend Arlington Catholic as the Crusaders claimed second place.
“We had a really good day. We’re running very well now that we’re into the latter half of the season,” said Fenwick coach Steve Czarnecki. “This was a good indication of where we’re at and we hope to keep going the next.”
Arianna Maida claimed the race’s top spot with a time of 20:01. Sydney Packard was seventh (21:00), Mary Pasquale took 10 (21:56), Meghan Clancy finishedat 18 (23:11) and Samantha Claveau was 20 (23:24).
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
St. Mary’s 1st, Fenwick 5th: The undefeated Spartans won the CCL meet for the first time since the program’s rebirth three years ago. Thomas Mackin was third overall, Cody Murtaugh (Peabody) was sixth, Matt McManus took eighth, Mike Cerulli claimed ninth and Liam Foley (Salem) came in at 14 with a performance that proved crucial to the team’s victory.
Bishop Fenwick meanwhile had Eric Loehle take 20 (19:43), Matt Loehle finish 26 (20:16) and Jim DiGiulio come in at 32 (20:40). Freshman Micha Malala won the JV race with a time of 12:36.
Revere 3, Beverly 1: Elias Crandell scored the lone goal for Beverly (10-7-1) while Elesio Kanani played well in the midfield.
St. John’s Prep 5, Everett 1: Senior captain Matt Chilton exploded for four goals on senior day as St. John’s Prep improved to 13-2-2. Paul Magazzu added the other goal while senior defender Andrew Cahill and senior midfielder Liam Welch impressed on the pitch for the Eagles.
St. Mary’s 4, AC 0: Peabody native Cristian Chavez scored two goals for St. Mary’s (8-4-4) while senior captain and keeper Helio Neto (Salem) earned his fifth shutout. Noah Camelo (Salem) had a goal and an assist, Dan Hennessy had an assist and Josh Bertrand (Rowley) recorded a marker.
Waring 5, Gann Academy 1: Kyle Patrick and Aiden Wood each recorded a pair of goals as Waring improves to 9-0-2 overall. Nick Wigglesworth also added to the scoring, while keeper Johnny Sandri played well in goal.
Swampscott 1, Marblehead 0: Tori Thistle took the ball the length of the field before passing to Annie Kane who converted the only goal of the game as Swampscott improved to 12-3-2. Nora Walker, Danielle Mayblyum and Tessa Bean had strong defensive efforts for the Big Blue.
Marblehead dropped to 10-6-2 despite good showings from Eliza Fitzgerald, Suzanne McCarthy, Grace Perry and Casey Collins.
Medfield 3, Bishop Fenwick 1: The Crusader (16-2) fell to a strong Medfield team in four sets 16-25, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25. Jen Crovo recorded 14 digs, while Siobhan McConnell had four aces.
Mystic Valley 3, NST/EA 0: The Hawks dropped to 7-12 after falling in straight games (25-11, 25-21, 25-11).
