Week 8 football hidden gems

The Salem News

---- — BILLY TEEHAN, Peabody

Peabody’s offense was nearly unstoppable in its 49-36 win over Salem last week and Teehan was one of the reasons why. The Tanners amassed 346 rushing yards (and 418 yards of total offense) and it was Teehan that bowled his way through the hole as lead blocker on most of those carries, flattening linebackers and making space for a pair of century runners in Cody Wlasuk (208 yards, 4 TDs) and Ryan Collins (137 yards, 2 TDs). On defense, Teehan was a major headache for the Witches in blitzing schemes. He sacked the quarterback twice and now has five sacks on the season.

The Panthers’ 61-25 demolition of visiting Swampscott on Saturday allowed many of their backups to get significant playing time in the second half, and when given his opportunity DiPaolo took full advantage. With the visiting Big Blue facing 3rd-and-17 on the Beverly 19-yard-line, DiPaolo beat his man off the ball cleanly and easily sacked QB Brendan McDonald for a 9-yard loss. It was one of five sacks for the Panthers on the afternoon.

The senior fell on a loose football on Lynn English’s first offensive play last Friday night, setting up the Magicians’ first touchdown. After Maxwell smothered the bouncing ball at the English 36-yard-line, his Marblehead teammates needed only five plays to produce points as quarterback Matt Millett scored on a 36-yard run. Maxwell’s alert play helped the Magicians get out to a quick lead en route to a 41-14 win over the Bulldogs.
