Masconomet's Ives named Cape Ann League field hockey MVP

Belle Ives, the standout senior forward who led Masconomet to the league title and was among its leading scorers, has been named Most Valuable Player in field hockey for the Cape Ann League’s Kinney (i.e., Large) Division.

Ives, a Salem News all-star as a junior, was also named to the CAL’s All-League team along with Masconomet teammates Julianna Kostas, a senior midfielder, and Maddie Doyle, a senior forward.

In addition, fellow Chieftains Maddie LaFreniere (a senior forward and midfielder) and Tessa Ives (a sophomore back) were named to the CAL all-star team.

Hamilton-Wenham’s Eliza Webber, a senior back, was also honored with an All-League selection. Her Generals’ teammate, fellow senior back Taylor Ward, was chosen for all-star status.

In the Cape Ann League’s Baker (i.e., Small) Division, goalkeeper Ali Bouvier and back Phoebe Howe, both seniors at Ipswich High, were All-League selections. Senior teammates Meghan Lindahl (a forward) and Bridget Curran (a back) were Tigers picked as all-stars.

In addition, Ipswich’s Sarah Merullo was named the CAL Baker Division’s Coach of the Year.

Three players from CAL Baker Division champion Manchester Essex (seniors Anna Heffernan, Brittany Smith and Taylor Meek) were named All-League, and fellow Hornet Sarah Beckman, a senior back, was voted an all-star.
