Wednesday's area roundup: Swampscott field hockey moving on in state tournament



Waring 6, Newman Prep 2: Waring got three goals from Kyle Patrick and single tallies from Isaac Stewart, Nick Wigglesworth and Aiden Wood to win a league semifinal game. Wigglesworth added two assists and Patrick had one while Nat Lyman played well for Waring (11-0-2).


Dana Hall 3, Pingree 0: The Highlanders (6-11) were swept in straight sets (5-25, 8-25, 12-25) as senior setter Haley Sabino recorded 10 assists.

Peabody 3, North Reading 2: The Tanners won a nail-biter, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 16-14, to finish the regular season 20-0. Carolyn Scacchi led the way with 24 kills and 18 digs. Olivia Summit contributed seven kills, Katie Gallo pitched in with 16 digs, and Maddie Mahoney produced 16 service points.

North Andover 3, Masconomet 0: The Chieftains dropped their regular season finale 25-14, 25-14, 25-23. Senior Kate Barry had nine service point, 12 digs, two kills and one block to power Masco (12-8). Seniors Maddie Kelly (7 service points, 8 digs, 3 kills) and Haley Greenslade (13 service points, 15 digs, 3 kills) also played well for the Chieftains.


UNE 3, Endicott 2: Emily Sawchuck scored and assisted on Amanda Glynn’s goal as the Gulls (8-10) led 2-1 at the half, but host University of New England scored two second half goals to snatch the CCC victory.

Salem State 3, Springfield 2: Taylor Nawn’s tally with just over eight minutes left helped Salem State (8-8) win and inch back to .500. Katie Pietrini and Lauren Pazdziorny also scored for the Vikings and Michaela Boyer made 16 saves in a strong effort.

Gordon 5, Nichols 0: Sisters Karli and Bailey Balmer had a hand in all five goals for the Fighting Scots (15-5). Karli had two goals and two assists and Bailey had one assist while Courtney Scott added two goals to hike her seasont total to 29. Katherine Bailey also scored.
