Weekend area roundup: Salem Senior Babe Ruth sweeps twinbill

Salem takes two: Winning for the 11th time in their last 12 outings, Salem took both ends of a doubleheader against Newburyport with wins of 8-2 and 9-5. In the first game, Timmy Ryan went 2-for-4, Sean Curtain and J.L. Pena went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBi and two runs scored each and Anthony Levesque struck out four in five innings of work while allowing one hit.In the 9-5 decision, Ryan Grey led the offense with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored while Matt Ryan had a big RBI double and Levesque delivered a clutch RBI as well. Christian Montanez earned the win with five innings, including four strikeouts in one frame after a dropped third strike prolonged the inning, and Troy Curtain struck out four in relief.Salem finished the regular season 12-5 and will find out their playoff opponent after the other teams finish their schedules.

agateHed:FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE

North Shore wins pair: The Navigators completed a perfect weekend with an 11-3 win over Seacoast. Blaise Lezynski went 3-for-4 with three RBI to spark North Shore’s offense, Andrew Brodbeck went 2-for-5 with two RBI and Tim Hendricks and Calvin Graves also had two hits each. The Navs (18-17) scored five in the fifth to pull away and Walker O’Conner earned the win. Saturday, North Shore edged out Old Orchard Beach, 8-7, by scoring four times in the top of the ninth. Ryan Grant earned his second save of the summer in the win.

agateHed:NORTH SHORE BASEBALL LEAGUE

Champions sweep doubleheader: Peabody took two from the Lynn Brickyard Legends, 6-2 and 17-1, to extend their winning streak to give games and boost their record to 14-6 on the summer. Derek Lyons hat two hits and two RBI, Zach Keenan and Mike Giardi added two RBI each and Andrew O’Neill scored twice in the first game with Mike Moroney getting the win with eight strikeouits. In the second game, Lyons had three hits, David Ruggeiro had three RBI, Jon Blodgett and Bobby Dean each ahd two RBI and O’Neill scored three times. Ben Hart went the distance and allowed one hit.
