Thursday's area roundup: Paladino co-leads Ouimet with locals in the hunt

Cody Paladino had another strong round yesterday in the second round of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament held at Wellesley Country Club. He has company at the top of the leaderboard, however.

Paladino’s two-day total of 139 tied him with John Flaherty and Matt Parziale for first place headed into today’s final round to be played at Woodland Golf Club.

Among the locals that made the cut were Alex Kane and Nick Pandelena, who are six strokes back and tied for 11th at 145. Charlie May and Nick McLaughlin are one stroke back of them at 146 total.

Defending champion Jack Whelan carded a 74 yesterday to move to 151 total and qualify for the final day of competition.

Massachusetts 2, New England 0: North Shore’s Ryan Grant got the last out of the eighth and Derek Dubois allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless sixth as the Bay State team won the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, held in Pittsfield. The Navs were also represented by Tim Hendricks (single) and Devin Carter, who started in the outfield.

Bishop Fenwick 39, Hamilton-Wenham 16: Kate Lipka led the scoring for the Crusaders with 14, while Chandler Wilder added eight in the win. Sam Charette finished 12 for H-W, which was eliminated in the loss.
