Monday's Area roundup: Beverly laxmen prevail in season opener


Salem State 1, Rhode Island College 0: Senior Ryan Sharp threw five shutout innings in a rain shortended win that was Salem State’s third consecutive by way of the shutout. Richard Fecteau scored Salem State’s run on a wild pitch after reaching on a walk and Sharp limited the hosts to three hits while fanning four as the Vikings improved to 7-8.

Endicott Sweeps: The Gulls (10-5) grabbed both ends of a doubleheader with Roger Williams, winning 8-4 and 3-1 to open their Commonwealth Coast Conference slate. Harry Oringer and Eric Lemke had RBIs in the eighth inning of the 3-1 win and Tyler Hitchcock went the distance to improve to 3-0. Oringer had two more RBIs and Tad Gold drove in a pair in the nigthcap and Zac Poland struck out six in five innings to win.
