Tuesday's area roundup: Salem Academy baseball, softball headed to finals


Salem Academy 8, Foxboro 4: The Navigators topped Foxboro in the MCFAL semifinals with help from Tara Deschenes, who pitched complete game with five strikeouts. She notched a pair of doubles and a triple at the plate, while Robin Henry picked up two hits and scored two runs and Sydney Moreno had three hits.


Salem Academy 10, Pioneer Charter 4: Salem Academy managed to defeat previously unbeaten Pioneer Charter to advance to tomorrow’s MCFAL finals against Boston Collegiate. Sam Benoit had three hits and played well defensively in center field. Brian Rodriguez picked up the win on the mound while striking out six.


Newburyport 4, Danvers 0: The Onion Town team fell with Nate Sweeney pitching well in relief. Dan Lynch, Ryan St. Pierre and Joe Olszak had hits for Danvers.


Manchester Essex 28, Hamilton-Wenham 13: Sabrina Palazolla scored 13 points and Kara Harsey added eight as the Hornets won in North Shore Girls Summer Basketball League action.

Lynnfield 38, Ipswich 37: The Pioneers pulled out the victory in the game of the night. Toni Dicefare (12 points) and Emma Mancini (10) played well for Lynnfield while Jenna Gagnon scored a game-high 14 points for Ipswich.

Gloucester 35, Wakefield 24: The Fishermen prevailed behind 12 points from Juliana Costanzo and nine from Sabrina Maciel. Daniella Iannuzzi scored 11 to lead Wakefield.

Danvers 42, Beverly 38: In the highest scoring game of the night, Kara Connors (11 points) and Shannon Veilleux (8) powered the Falcons’ offense. Jess Cross dropped 12 points for Beverly.
