Friday's area roundup: Salem/Beverly Northeast Babe Ruth squad wins second straight

NORTHEAST SENIOR BABE RUTH

Salem/Beverly 5, Masconomet 2: The combined Salem/Beverly squad improved to 2-1 on Thursday night behind an 86-pitch, complete game performance from George Hillios (seven hits allowed and four strikeouts). Greg Spelliotis, Cody Mercier and Dan Bailey each had an RBI double for Salem/Beverly.

BOYS TRACK

Peabody competes at Nationals: At New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina, Peabody’s 4x100 and 4x200 relays both turned in season best times.The 4x100 of Zachary Gross, Christian Cedullo, Kevin Guzman and Victor Teixeira ran 43.6 and finished 14th overall. The foursome of Gross, Guzman, David Tramonte and Cedullo ran 1:32.57 to finish 21st and only 0.22 seconds off the school record.

The Tanners have athletes competing in the both the Emerging Elite and Championship sprint medley relays as well as the Emerging Elite 2-mile, Championship 1600 medley relay and the Emerging Elite distance medley.

NORTH SHORE GIRLS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Scores from Thursday night’s games:

Bishop Fenwick 28, North Reading 21: Colleen Corcoran scored nine points and Sydney Brennan added seven to power the Crusaders to victory.

Ipswich 40, Danvers 20: Jenna Gagnon had a game-high 16 points while teammate Jordan Morrissey finished with 10 for the Tigers. Shannon Quinlivan and Tina Gigli both scored four points to lead Danvers.

Masconomet 38, Wakefield 29: Meghan Collins (7 points) and Kailey Crothers (6) led a balanced scoring attack for the winners. Daniella Iannuzzi and Gabby Jolly both had eight points for Wakefield.

Peabody also won, toppling Beverly 40-28.
