Peabody Blue 10, Revere 0: The Blue all-stars from the Tanner City began their District 16 tournament with a totqal team effort and came away with the win. Pitcher Shawn Letarte struck out 12 in four innings to pick up the win, allowing just one hit with three walks. Alex Gonzalez came on with the bases loaded and got three straight strikeouts to help Peabody escape a jam in the fifth, while Declan Russell keyed the offense with a three-run homer and Tadion Perez also hit a homer.
“It was a great team win,” said Peabody Blue manager Eric Ricci. “We played solid defense and everybody on the team did thier job and had a blast doing it. Revere was a good team that played hard, and that bases loaded situation in the fifth could’ve made it a different game.”
Peabody West 14, Pine Hill 2: The West all-stars opened the District 16 tournament with a win Sunday as John Mulready threw four innings to pick up the win and also helped himself by clubbing a 2-run homer. Joe Gilmartin added a 3-run shot for Peabody West, which plays Swampscott in the winner’s bracket quarterfinals at Pine Hill on Thursday (5:45).
Lynn 5, Bevery 2: Panther pitcher Nate Pastorello allowed his first hit in the bottom of the sixth, and allowed only two earned runs despite coming out on the losing end. Dan Johnson and Pastorello each had RBI while Ryan Anderson had two hits and played a strong defensive game at second base.
