Beverly edges out Gloucester American in D15 action

DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE

Beverly 9, Gloucester American 8: Tyler Petrosino and Matt Miller each homered in the win for Beverly. Brayden Clark and Matthew Ploszay each picked up a pair of hits. Clark, Miller and Bryce Kopcak each threw and inning, while Petrosino came on for the save.

DISTRICT 16 LITTLE LEAGUE

Peabody West 17, Lynn Shore 7: Peabody West scored 17 unanswered run to advance to the District 16 semifinals on Sunday against Wyoma. John Mulready tied the game with home run in the fourth, while Mike Sabella picked up a two-run blast in the fifth.

NORTH SHORE GIRLS BASKETBALL SUMMER LEAGUE

Bishop Fenwick 42, Gloucester 17: Melissa McKenzie led the way with 12 points, while Lexi Rose finished with nine for the Crusaders.

Masconomet 40, Ipswich 30: Chieftains guard Kate Kitsakos had a team-high 11 points in the victory. Jenna Gagnon (18 points) and Jordan Morrissey (10 points) were dominant for the Tigers.

Manchester Essex 45, Danvers 16: Kara Hersey (14 points) and Sabrina Palazola (11 points) paced the Hornets’ offense.

NORTHEAST SENIOR BABE RUTH

Salem/Beverly wins two: The combined Salem/Beverly Senior Babe Ruth squad made it seven wins a row by topping Lynn on Monday night and then beating the combined Masconomet squad last night, 9-6.

Sean Curtin (two RBI) and Cody Mercier both homered last night while Wes Schaejbe had a big two-run, two out hit and also picked up the save. George Hillios earned the win on the hill.

Monday, Matt Ryan earned the win with six strikeouts in five innings of 1-hit ball. Tim Ryan, Zach Leblanc and Schaejbe each had RBI in that game. Salem/Beverly is now 7-1 and plays again on Monday.
