Wednesday's area roundup: Salem softball wins District 16 senior title, advances

DISTRICT 16 SENIOR SOFTBALL

Salem 6, Peabody 2: Tara Deschenes pitched all seven innings with seven strikeouts and no walks to help the Witches win the District flag. Meghan Zipper, Hannah Chasse and Deschenes hit back-to-back-to-back doubles in the fifth to spark the offense for Salem, Diana LeBlanc and Jessica Jellison stood out in the middle infield.Salem advances to the sectional tournament and will play either Wakefield or Woburn at Mack Park on Saturday.

 

WORLD TEAM TENNIS

Washington 25, Boston 7: The Lobsters dropped to 0-3 on the season and didn’t win a match on the road against the powerful Kastles. Boston’s best effort came in men’s doubles where Eric Butorac and Rik de Voest fell 5-4.

 

FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE

Navigators 6, Wachusett 6: Peabody’s Brandon Bingel had two hits, including an RBI double, in his second game with the Navs, who remained tied in the ninth inning at press time. Swamspcott’s Trevor Massey got the start for North Shore, striking out four in four innings, and Peabody native Tommy Buonopane scored a run for visiting Wachusett.

 

NORTH SHORE GIRLS SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Ipswich 60, Hamilton-Wenham 30: The Tigers were led by Jenna Gagnon, who dropped in a game-high 30 points.

Lynnfield 35, Danvers 19: Tina Gigli scored 12 points for Danvers, while Marie Norwood (11 points) and Emma Mancini (10 points) were dominant for Lynnfield.

North Reading 33, Beverly 27: Adrianna Flanagan netted 13 points for North Reading. Olivia George finished with eight for the Panthers.
