GIRLS SOCCER
Salem High striker Jasmine Bryant began her senior season in top form last night at Bertram Field, notching a pair of goals as the Witches knotted up Gloucester 2-2.
The co-captain opened the scoring just 90 seconds into the game when she won a ball up the left side, made a move to the net and finished. Bryant later gave Salem a 2-1 lead, but Gloucester evened the score early in the second half.
"Both teams had chances but the defense was good," said Salem coach Fred Day. "I thought out defense was outstanding, especially the senior leadership from Lauren Schaejbe and Jackie Rocheville."
Day also singled out defenders Jessica King as well as Leslie Baez, Desiree Deleon and Holbrook Phelan. Gloucester's two goals came from Clare Pleuler, who buried a pair of free kicks.
NO. Reading 5, NS Tech 0: The Bulldogs (1-1) fell to a tough Cape Ann opponent despite strong play on the outside middle from freshman Jackie Donahue. Kourtney Kellard also had a strong outing.
ipswich 2, beverly 0: Bryn Golesworthy and Mary Krathwohl scored the goals for Ipswich in an impressive non-league win. Mariah Brockelbank and Hannah Weagle each had an assist for the 2-0 Tigers. Hannah O'Flynn had nine saves in goals, many of them on corner kicks.

BC HIGH 234, ST. JOHN'S PREP 245: The Eagles lost their Catholic Conference opener at Wollaston. Junior Nick McLaughlin shot a 38 for St. John's Prep and Sean Patrikas had a 39. The Prep is 1-1 overall.
Salem 124, Bp. Fenwick 67: Sophomore Tim Richmond led the Witches with 26 points while Max Cobitz chipped in 23 and Kyle Florence and Cameron Darmody scored 21 apiece.
FIELD HOCKEY
BISHOP FENWICK 4, URSULINE ACADEMY 0: Kayla Caruso, Erin Botticelli, Jen Jordan and Grace Celona accounted for the girls as the Crusaders opened up the season in impressive fashion. Jordan added two assists in what was her first varsity game.
manchester essex 9, north reading 0: Senior Tasha Lyne collected three goals for the Hornets while sophomores Kelsi Field and Nicole Bradley each had two goals. Senior captain Kyle Marsh and Hannah Daley each chipped in one goal.
Masco. 2, Wilmington 1: Senior captain Pam Herter scored both goals for the Chieftains, including the winner with just four minutes left in regulation. Fellow senior captain Liz Doyle assisted both tallies while center back Audrey Maysek had an outstanding game. Junior goalie Amanda Tapparo was sharp with 20 stops.
BOYS SOCCER
No. Reading 10, NS Tech 0: Ben Thomas turned in a solid effort off the bench and Jimmy Nebelski played well as the Bulldogs fell to 1-1 on the season.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE TENNIS
PLYMOUTH STATE 8, ENDICOTT 1: The Gulls have had Plymouth State's number over the years, but not this time as Plymouth defeated Endicott for the first time since 2004. Endicott's lone point came from No. 1 singles player Kate Cioffi.
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Southern Maine 2, Gordon 1 (OT): USM's Kailey Bubier scored her second goal of the game to send the Fighting Scots off with an overtime loss. After 55 minutes of scoreless field hockey, Gordon's Veronica Pierce scored but Southern Maine got two more goals to win before it was all said and done.
