Danvers' Berry traded from Maple Leafs to Lightning

Alex Berry of Danvers has been traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League.

Berry was traded with fellow minor leaguer Stefano Gillati for defenseman Matt Lashoff, a former Boston Bruins prospect.

Berry will attend the Lightning's NHL training camp when it begins early next month in hopes of sticking with the team.

A 6-foot-2, 212-pound forward known for his physical play, Berry played most of last season with the Maple Leafs' American Hockey League farm team, the Toronto Marlies. There, he had three goals and seven points in 55 games to go along with 97 penalty minutes.

A former UMass Amherst standout who was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Berry also played in five games for the East Coast Hockey League's Reading Royals last season, then 16 more games in the playoffs. He had 11 points in those combined 21 contests.
