Middleton gymnast Shernan takes Regional all-around and beam championship; heads to Nationals

---- — Masconomet Regional gymnast Mina Shernan capped off a terrific season recently by competing at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern Championships in Battle Creek, Mich.

Battling against the best gymnasts from New England and New York, Shernan scored a 34.600 in the all-around at Nationals. She scored a 9.100 in vault, 9.100 in the uneven bars and 8.550 on floor exercises.

A Salem News all-star, Shernan won the Cape Ann League/Northeastern Conference MVP this past winter as a first-year competitor for Masconomet.

With her Yellow Jackets Gymnastics Club in Middleton, she placed third in the all-around (35.225) and was second on bars at the USA Gymnastics State Meet. Shernan then qualified for the Level 9 Regional Meet, winning the all-around in the Senior Division with a personal best score (36.275) while finishing first on beam and second on bars.

A member of both the National Honor Society and French Honor Society at Masconomet, Shernan holds a 4.39 grade-point average. She will compete as a Level 10 gymnast for Yellow Jackets next season.
