Heckman, Lally, Maselek honored with NEC lacrosse awards

Record setting senior attack Keifer Heckman of Peabody was honored as the Northeastern Conference North Offensive Player of the Year as the league announced its all-stars and major awards yesterday.

Beverly goalie Kevin Lally and Marblehead netminder Nathan Maselek shared the NEC North Defensive Player of the Year award.

In the NEC South division, Salem’s Chad Coelho shared Offensive Player of the Year with Saugus’ Nick Benoit. Fellow Salemite J.T. Kapnis shared the Defensive Player of the Year honor with Revere’s Doug Zingali.

Marblehead’s John Wilkens was named the NEC’s Coach of the Year after leading his team to a North co-championship with Beverly. Alec Roach of Danvers received the Sportsmanship Award, Gloucester’s Tom Falzarano was “Man of the Year” and Saugus’ Tom Pierce was Assistant Coach of the Year.

Local players earning First-Team NEC North All-Star distinction were: Beverly attack Ryan Shipp, midfielders Dom Abate and Brendan Flaherty, defenders Andrew Irving and Ty Martz and goalie Kevin Lally; Peabody attacks Heckman and Nick Ouellette; Marblehead attack Trevor Jones, midfielders Ian Maag and Zac Cuzner, defenseman Liam Gillis and goalie Maselek; and Danvers faceoff specialist Stephen Ganley.

Salem attackmen Coelho, Matt Muse and Peter Slattery, faceoff specialist Matt Wilson and Kapnis all earned South First-Team all-star honors.

The Second-Team all-stars in the North were Nick Albano, Conor Leahy and Dylan Jutras of Beverly; Dean Fader, Brooks Tyrell, Crandell Maxwell and Will Hughes of Marblehead; Brian Santry, Kevin Marescalchi, Josh Rothwell, Jason Dingan, Joe Silva and Max Cohen of Swampscott; Jay Calcagno, Matt Flynn, Theo Hatzelamprou and Dean Geary of Danvers; and Josh Fiore, Reed Foster and Andrew Najjar of Peabody.

Salem’s Second-Team all-stars in the South were Craig Denehy, Billy Muse, Mitch Osgood, Todd Dunlap, Matt Demirs and Christian Costa.
