Wednesday's area roundup: Danvers Babe Ruth 13s take down Silver Lake


Danvers 16, Silver Lake 14: In a wild slugfest that lasted almost three hours, the Danvers Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-stars began the Eastern Mass. championship round with a victory at the Bowser Complex in Lynn.

Timmy Usalis powered the team’s 17-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with two triples, a pair of walks and four RBI. Nick Raimo added two hits, including a triple, and also knocked in four. Jackson Leete added three hits while Brett Boudreault (3 RBI), Casey Bussone, Zack Dillon (who also had two walks) and Nick DiSciullo all added two hits.

Bussone got the win, going the first four innings and allowing just four runs and three hits. Danvers will now face Burlington, an 11-4 winner over Arlington, tomorrow back in Lynn (6 p.m.).

Beverly 9, Amesbury 0: Jack Laganas spun a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Beverly Little League 12-year-old all-star team won the District title with a shutout win. Laganas, who threw a no-hitter in the quarterfinals, also helped himself offensively with a pair of singles and two RBI.

Bryce Visnick clubbed a three-run homer for Beverly and singled in another run, finishing with three hits on the night. Eric DiPietro added two hits and a pair of runs batted in while Ryan Kalampalikis contributed a double. Defensively, Conor Dunleavy made a great catch in the outfield while second baseman Nick Johnson dove to snag another ball for Beverly, which went a perfect 6-0 in the tournament.


Masconomet 37, Hamilton-Wenham 13: Hannah Kieran (13 points) and Meg Collins (10) guided the Chieftains to victory in the final game before playoffs next week.

Lynnfield 38, Manchester Essex 28: Katherine Lawless scored a game-high 13 points for the Pioneers, while teammate Ashley McCray added 11. Sydney Christopher finished with 10 for the Hornets.
