Boston wins, stays in playoff hunt

Boston 22, Philadelphia 18: The Lobsters went on the road and won each of the final four matches to take a crucial victory in the hunt for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. Boston improved to 5-8, one game ahead of New York, with one match left.Jill Craybas and Katalin Marosi cruised to a 5-2 win in women’s doubles to tie the match after Philly won men’s singles by the same score. Eric Butorac and Marosi then squeezed out a 5-4 win in mixed doubles, in a tiebreaker, to give Boston the lead for good.Craybas then won women’s singles, 5-3, and Butorac teamed with Amir Weintraub to win men’s doubles in another tiebreaker, 5-4, to close out the match.Boston visits Eastern Conference leading Washington tonight and would clinch a playoff spot with either a victory of a loss by New York at Philadelphia.


In the playoff action yesterday, Danvers toppled Hamilton-Wenham 33-21 with Devan Walsh scoring 11 points and Cara Connors had six. H-W’s Sam Charette had ten. Also, Ipswich defeated Gloucester 47-41 behind Jenna Gagnon’s 19 points and Brooke Williams’ 15. Wakefield defeated Beverly, 32-19, and Lynnfield beat Manchester Essex 37-24. The double-elimination playoffs continue tonight.
