---- — For Cody Paladino, leading the 46th Ouimet Memorial Tournament, the first round wasn’t about how he started, but how he finished.
Now, the rest of the field will try to finish strong, too.
Paladino, a 24-year-old from Connecticut, shook off a double-bogey start to shoot a 5-under 67 in yesterday’s first round at Wollaston Golf Club.
The 54-hole amateur tournament that benefits the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund continues today at Wellesley Country Club and concluces on Friday at Woodland.
Among the locals in the hunt are Charlie May, five strokes off the lead at 72, and Alex Kane, who shot an opening round 74. Nick McLaughlin and Nick Pandelena each shot 75. Jack Whelan, who won the event a year ago, shot a 77, as did Gloucester’s Josh Salah.
