SWAMPSCOTT (4-6) at MARBLEHEAD (8-2)
Where: Piper Field, Marblehead, 10 a.m.
All-Time Series: Swampscott leads, 51-50-7 (Swampscott also leads, 49-48-7, on Thanksgiving)
Key to victory for Marblehead: Putting their sectional final loss to Tewksbury behind them, which they should have no problem doing. Since the Magicians aren’t preparing for a playoff game this week, all of their focus will be directed to Thursday’s game.
Key to victory for Swampscott: Establish the tempo of the game early on. Swampscott needs hold off Marblehead off the board for as long as possible. Both these teams know each other extremely well, so there are very few surprises. It’ll come down to whichever team can last the full four quarters.
Intangibles: This is essentially both teams’ Super Bowl, so it should make for quite the battle. This was the first year since 1909 that Marblehead and Swampscott played on a day other than Thanksgiving; the Magicians topped the Big Blue, 35-7, back in September. However, Swampscott was able to hold Marblehead off the board for nearly two quarters.
Did You Know?: Marblehead hasn’t lost in back-to-back games all season, while the Big Blue are riding a three-game win streak heading into Thursday’s contest.
