There must be something about Blackstone National Golf Course in Sutton that brings out the best in Salem State senior golfer Nick Zolotas.
Zolotas captured his second individual title at the Worcester State Invitational by firing a 6-under par 66 to run away from the field by 11 strokes. Zolotas' performance also helped the Vikings win their third consecutive MASCAC Championship.
Zolotas, a Peabody native and St. John's Prep graduate, won the Worcester Invitational last year by shooting a 3-under par 69. Yesterday his 66 was only three strokes off the course record.
The Vikings captain was 4-under par on the four par-5 holes, and he only carded two bogeys. He also eagled the par-4, 346-yard sixth hole.
Tom Grant turned in Salem State's second-best performance by placing fifth overall with a 79.
The Vikings shot a combined 312 to win the title by 14 strokes. Western New England took second (326), while Rhode Island College placed third (327).
