Weekend area roundup: Gordon's clutch hit propels Peabody


Peabody 8, Lynn English 6: Sparked by senior Max Gordon’s pinch-hit double, the Tanners (3-1, 2-0 NEC) scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to overcome a 6-3 Bulldog lead. Mike Petrosino (two hits, two stolen bases) and Steve Leavitt followed with singles and sophomore Ryan Collins then slapped a two-run single to give Peabody the lead. Senior catcher Brandon Polignone’s second RBI of the day gave the hosts an insurance run and senior Pat Ruotolo struck out the side in the seventh for the save.

Frank Lowry had two hits and an RBI for Peabody and junior Andrew McLaughlin earned the win with a scoreless sixth; David Apostolides allowed three earned runs in five innings and Peabody stole 11 total bases.

Bishop Fenwick 8, Matignon 3: Gianni Esposito smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning to break open a tight game and Joe Levasseur earned the win on the mound for Fenwick (3-1). Levasseur went six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and also helped his own cause with a pair of hits.

Brian Burke also had two hits for Fenwick.

NST/EA 1, Chelsea 0: Senior Tim Andersen struk out nine, walked one and allowed just three hits for NST/EA (2-3) while his defense, led by junior shortstop J.T. Bisazza, was phenomenal with no errors. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the fifth, junior Andrew Gallione drove in senior Andrew MacNicol for the game’s only run.


Peabody 16, Medford 9: Keifer Heckman scored seven goals and added an assist and Nick Ouellette chipped in with three goals and four assists as the Tanners improved to 3-2. Josh Fiore (2 goals, 1 assist), Reed Foster (1-2) also had multiple points while Bobby Caproni, Andrew Bisconte and Jeremiah Manfra each scored once. Evan Connolly made seven saves for Peabody.
