Five locals chosen for Mass. High School Baseball All-Star Game

A quintet of the best baseball players in The Salem News’ coverage area has been selected to play in the 36th annual Massachusetts High School Baseball Coaches All-Star Game.

Beverly High pitcher/outfielder Alex Toomey; second baseman Dan Connors and outfielder A.J. Couto of Danvers High; pitcher/shortstop Speros Varinos of Masconomet Regional and third baseman Nick Bragole of St. John’s Prep will play for the North squad against their South counterparts on Monday at Fraser Field in Lynn (6 p.m.).

Following Monday’s game, 16 players from the North and South squads will be chosen to play the Connecticut All-Stars on Saturday, June 22, at Tufts University in Medford at 11 a.m., followed by the Mass. Junior Select team vs. Connecticut at 2 p.m.
