Marathon Snapshot: Mike Osborne

Name: Mike Osborne

Age: 31

Hometown: Peabody

Number of marathons: First time in Boston; first marathon overall. I began running in November, ran my first 5K on Thanksgiving morning and completed my first half-marathon in February.

Who are you running for?: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital as part of their Race for Rehab Boston Marathon team. My wife Marissa is an occupational therapist at Spaulding in Charlestown; she and her colleagues treated 32 Marathon survivors. Their stories of recovery and other stories I hear from my wife every day inspired me to run.

Why is it important for you to run this year?: I’ve chosen to run in honor of the therapists and staff at Spaulding. They played such an instrumental role in the recovery of the survivors and also in the recovery of the city as a whole.

A perfect race day for you would be: Sunny in the 60s would be ideal for me, but having never done this before I really don’t know. All I know is I hope the city and state come out to show the virtues and resolve of Boston. I hope it’s a day of fun, loud cheers, a Red Sox win and a safe, enjoyable and memorable run.
