There was a little extra pop on Austin Michel’s fastball yesterday and Hamilton-Wenham capitalized defeating Saugus 2-1 on a walk off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Brett Harring ripped a single up the middle to score pinch runner Harrison O’Brien to elevate the Generals to 4-1 on the season.
H-W’s junior fireballer went six strong innings, striking out 16 Sachems while surrendering no earned runs on two hits and a walk. Michel struck out the first 11 batters he faced in the game.
”His fastball had serious pop. He was gassing everything bye them,” explained H-W head coach Reggie Maidment. “He mixed in his curveball occasionally the second time through (the Saugus order), but the first three innings it was just gas and they just couldn’t handle it.”
Michel gave up both hits in the fourth where an H-W error and a Saugus double led to the Sachems taking a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Mark Vivenzio led off with a single and then scored when Tommy Dowd smashed a RBI triple.
Salem 6, Marblehead 5: Christian Vandestadt scored the game-winning run to give Salem (1-3) the walk off win on a RBI single by Anthony Levesque. Victor Claudil bunted Vandestadt to second base and also was the winning pitcher after relieving starter Samuel Ramirez who threw 117 pitches in 6 and 1/3 innings of five run ball. Austin Connolly was 1 for 2 with three RBI and a triple while Zach LeBlanc contributed two hits, a stolen bag and a RBI.
Greater Lawrence 3, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 1: NST/EA dropped to 2-3 overall despite a strong start from sophomore Mike Mitchell who went the distance, striking out 10 while giving up eight hits and no walks. Senior JT Bisazzi had a double while sophomore Matt O’Connell had a double and a RBI.
