Friday's area roundup: Hyde, Danvers take care of Marblehead

BASEBALL

Danvers 10, Marblehead 5: Senior lefty Brandon Hyde earned his 20th career victory, scattering four hits and no runs over five innings as the Falcons improved to 5-1. Freshman DH Jordan DiDonato was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the Falcons offensively. Andrew Olszak had a pair of hits and scored twice; Dan Lynch also had two hits, stole two bases and scored once; and freshman catcher Matt Andreas had a stellar game defensively.

Marblehead (2-3) scored five runs in the sixth inning, with Trey Blackmer and Jake Marsden finishing with two hits each.

Ipswich 6, Amesbury 3: Sean Whooley tossed a complete game for Ipswich (2-3) striking out seven while walking nobody and he also collected a pair of hits and scored two runs. Ryan Silva had three stolen bases and two RBI leading the Tigers to a victory on the road.

Newburyport 5, Beverly 4: The Panthers (2-4) squandered a three-run lead after allowing three unearned runs in the fourth inning. Kevin Cuneo was 2 for 3 with a RBI while John Berchoff was 1 for 3.

SOFTBALL

Masconomet 14, Lynn English 0: Senior Emily Dow allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out five over four innings, guiding the Chieftains (4-1) to an easy road win. Tayla Murray, a sophomore, pitched the final inning and struck out two.

Offensively, Masconomet was led by senior captain and third baseman Maddie Kelly, who bashed a three-run home run, was on base in each of her at-bats and finished with six RBIs. Junior Jordyn Murray also had a two-run homer and a stolen base, while senior captain Julianna Kostas finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Tewksbury 3, Peabody 1: Shelby Wilson went the distance for Peabody (2-2) striking out eight while walking none and surrendering one earned run. Wilson was also 2 for 3 at the plate while teammate Nicole Grafton went 3 for 4.
