Monday's area roundup: Peabody's Wilson tosses perfect game

Junior ace Shelbi Wilson threw a perfect game against Gloucester in yesterday’s 9-0 victory for the Tanners (5-2). Wilson struck out eight batters, while the defense behind her was stellar.

”She’s been getting stronger as the season has gone on,” said Peabody head coach Butch Melanaphy. “She was on. Shelbi threw very few pitches and the innings were quick. Gloucester put the ball in play a few times, but the girls played great behind her.

”I don’t think she knew what she did because after the game I told her and her mouth dropped.”

Dana Collins went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Wilson finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, Senior captain Nicole Grafton went 2-for-2 and Ashley Jenkins finished the day 3-for-4.

Masconomet 9, Amesbury 5: Emily Dow got her fifth victory on the hill, allowed two walks and struck out five batters as the Chieftains improve to 5-2.
