Thursday's area roundup: Latham lifts St. John's Prep in extra innings


St. John’s Prep 6, St. John’s Shrewsbury 4: Junior Nick Latham (Salem) hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to help the Eagles (9-1) prevail in extra innings.

Down 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Ted McNamara homered, followed by back-to-back doubles by Mark Etherington and Rosario Missiti to push extra innings. Justin Snyder pitched seven innings, gave up three earned runs and struck out five. Dan Trully picked up the win in relief, through two innings of work.

Danvers 14, Salem 4: Devon Allen smashed a three-run homer and Raf Tylus earned the win for the Falcons (8-3). Danny Lynch was 3 for 4 with two RBI and a double while Chris Valles was 2 for 3 with a RBI.


Masconomet 14, Georgetown 8: Harry Cwik (four goals, three assists), Tom Cashin (five goals, one assist) and Cam Jung (three goals, one assist) carried the Masco (9-3) offense while goalie Johnathan Schiff made 10 saves. Mitchell Godett won 19 of 25 faceoffs.

Marblehead 16, Peabody 2: Harrison Young (six goals, one assist) and Dean Fader (three goals, one assist) were the top offensive contributors for Marblehead (6-5) while Crandall Maxwell led the defensive effort.

Pingree 12, Bancroft 4: The Highlanders improved to 7-3 behind five goals and three assists from junior Carter Rossano as well as three goals from sophomore Sam Ober.


St. John’s Prep 3, St. John’s Shrewsbury 0: Sophomore outside hitter Brian Purisky had eight kills and St. John’s Prep swept in straight games (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) to move to 8-4. Junior outside hitter Henry Gustafson chipped in nine kills.


Peabody 112, Salem 23: Rebecca Beaulieu won the javelin (88-10) and Yailen Almonte (110 high hurdles) each won events for Salem, which slipped to 1-3. Salem also won the 4x400 relay and got solid performances from freshmen Dani Stotts in the 400 and Lauren Barnes in the 2-mile.


Bishop Fenwick 15, Matignon 6: A nine-point explosion from Chris Napolitano (five goals, four assists) helped the Crusaders improve to 7-5 on Wednesday. Mark Nalesnik scored five goals with one assist and Kyle Russell added a goal and five helpers while Jake Mitchell scored twice and Chris Carney and Tyler Fouhey had one. Nick Finan and Dylan Miata combined for nine saves.
