Friday's area roundup: Fenwick softball victorious over arch rival St. Mary's


Bishop Fenwick 3, St. Mary’s 0: Natalie Moore gave up four hits, walked two and struck out one as the Crusaders got the win over arch rival St. Mary’s. Charlotte Powers and Mikayla Porcaro both went 1-for-2 with a run scored and drove in a run, Moore finished 2-for-3, including an RBI double. The Crusaders (6-3) have a doubleheader today against Nantucket.

Masconomet 7, Lynnfield 1: The Chieftains went 4-0 this week, wrapping it up with a complete team win over league opponent Lynnfield. Masco, which improves to 8-2 on the year, had Manchester Essex on Monday.

Pingree 9, Dana Hall 4: Gabby Munez finished the day 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs scored for the Highlanders (5-1), winning their fifth straight. Haley Sabino and Christina Chalmers both went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Chalmers also picked up the win on the hill, she gave up seven hits and struck out.

Marblehead 4, Beverly 0: Michaela Leblanc threw a six-hit shutout while striking out five behind error less defense. Sophomore left fielder Allison Kapoll went 3-for-3, scoring three runs. Catcher Emily Messinger finished 2-for-2, driving in a pair of runs and third baseman Sara Bornstein notched a 2 RBI single in the fifth.

Hannah Silvestri went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Panthers and played outstanding defense at short. Freshman catcher Cori Coults went 2-for-3 at the plate and threw out a runner at third.

Saugus 6, Ipswich 2: Carly Coughlin singled, took second when Amy Neenan bunted her over and scored when Skylar Hambley’s grounder was booted for an error. The Tigers added a second run in the same inning when Jo Lombard tripled home Hambley. Carolyn Lynch was 2-for-4 offensively with a single and a double and played very well at shortstop, while her sister Katie Lynch had her best game of the season on the mound.
