Monday's area roundup: Sullivan's performance lifts Big Blue baseball by Peabody

BASEBALL

Swampscott 5, Peabody 2: Freshman Gavin Sullivan propelled the Big Blue (4-9) to victory over Peabody. Sullivan gave up two earned runs and struck out five in seven innings of work.

”Gavin competed one hundred percent on every pitch. I can say enough about his performance,” said Swampscott coach Jason Calichman.

Offensively, Matt Hubauer went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double, Kyle Waters finished 1-for-3 including a double and Ryan Cresta had a sacrifice fly and double.

Mike Petrosino, Ryan Collins and Bobby Tramondozzi each had two hits for the Tanners (10-3).

Beverly 13, Northeast Metro Tech 4: The Panthers (7-6) scored six runs in the fifth inning to break the open. Craig Hall had three hits and three RBIs, while Matt Hamor finished with four hits and two RBIs. Sean Munzing picked up the win, throwing four innings and gave up two earned runs.

St. John’s Prep 3, Xaverian 0: The Eagles picked up their 11th straight win after Evan Roberts threw a complete game, giving up one hit and striking out six. Nick Latham drove in two runs, Max Burt knocked in a run and senior Mark Etherington (Danvers) scored two runs and stole three bases as the Eagles stay undefeated in Catholic Conference play at 4-0.

Lynn Classical 4, Danvers 3: The Falcons (9-4) had tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Ryan Kelleher knocked in Devonn Allen. But the host Rams won it in the bottom of the frame on an infield error.

Salem Academy 14, Prospect Hill 4: Ryan Rodriguez got the win for Salem Academy (3-1).

Marblehead 5, Salem 1: Senior righty Jordan Chmara was sharp for the Magicians, pitching five innings and giving up six hits and one earned run with four strikeouts. Kyle Maulden went 2 for 3 with two RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored. Tommy Koopman added a hit and two runs while Beau Dana and Garrett Keough each had RBI singles. Senior Andrew Raisner struck out four of the six batters he faced in a strong relief appearance for Marblehead (5-7).
