For their exploits both in the classroom and on the athletic fields, Beverly High’s Caitlin Harty and Hamilton-Wenham Regional’s Austen Michel have been selected as the Moynihan Lumber Student-Athletes of the Month for April.
Caitlin, who is ranked No. 1 in her senior class and is the Beverly High valedictorian, carries a 4.7 grade-point average. She is a dominant three-sport athlete in girls soccer, indoor and outdoor track, and is undefeated in the 400 meter race this spring (with a best time of 59.5 seconds). She is a four-time Northeastern Conference all-star in track and a three-sport captain. In addition, Caitlin is Beverly High’s all-time leading scorer in soccer, was an All-State and All-New England selection, and will continue her career on the pitch at Holy Cross.
Austen, a junior, is one of the most dominant baseball players in the Cape Ann League who is drawing attention of Division 1 college programs. For the month of April he went 2-0 on the mound and struck out 16 hitters; offensively, he hit .320 with four home runs and knocked in eight. He is also an outstanding student at Hamilton-Wenham Regional, getting a majority of A grades while taking some of the school’s most challenging courses.
