Monday's area roundup: Marblehead qualifies for tourney in extra innings win

Marblehead 6, Gloucester 4: In the tenth inning, McKenna Barrett broke a 4-4 tie when she scored on a wild pitch and Olivia Vener later scored on a sacrifice fly by Alison Kapoll as the Magicians (10-7) officially qualified for the state playoffs. Michaela Leblanc went all ten innings to win, allowing just five hits and no runs over the last eight frames as Marblehead rebounded after trailing 4-3 early on.

Pingree 16, Lexington Christian 1: Gabby Muniz hit two solo homers, while Kelsey Dion notched a three-run home run and a grand slam to finish the day with eight RBI. Christina Chalmers picked up her 10th straight victory going six innings and struck out eight batters for the Highlanders (10-1).

North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 2, Shawsheen 1: Rhiannon Lane went 6 1/3 innings while allowing just four hits and striking out 11 as the Hawks improved to 8-2. Kaera Wyse came in to get the final two outs for the save. Kasey Harris had two hits, including an RBI double, with Dianna LeBlanc and Lane scoring the two runs.

Salem Academy 13, KIPP Academy 4: Tanya Scholles threw a complete game for her first victory of the season as Salem Academy stayed unbeaten (7-0). Jenn Gorman had a stellar game at second base while Hannah Fortin and Robyn Hendry paced the offense with RBI hits.

Revere 4, Salem 1: Desiree Martin bunted for a hit, reached second on a passed ball, stole third and came home on the subsequent error to score the Witches’ run. Meaghan Zipper pitched well in defeat for Salem (2-12).

Lynn Classical 8, Beverly 5: Kate Silvestri hit a triple, scored a run and drove in another and Hannah Silvestri had a pair of hits and an RBI, but the Rams came to tip the Panthers. Olivia George added a two RBIs and a hit to help out Beverly’s offense.

Manchester Essex 17, Ipswich 1: Skylar Hambley was 2-for-3 with two singles and a runs scored. Sara Beckmann and Nina Manzo both went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Melony Carter finished 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Hornets (6-9).
