Weekend area roundup: Hamilton-Wenham headed back to the postseason


Hamilton-Wenham wins D4 Relays: The Generals took first in both the 4xmile and 4x100 meters to highlight a tremendous day. Emily Horgan, Olivia Horgan, Amanda Burnett and Emily Weigand ran a 22:42 to lift HW in the 4xmile, Vanessa Morris, Liz Kischner, Maddy Bukkhegyi and Daniela Garcia ran 52.63 in the 4x100.

The same group that won the 4xmile took second in the 4x800 in 10:14. Hamilton-Wenham also had five third place finishes. The Generals took third in the 4x200, shuttle hurdles, pole vault, high jump and triple jump. They were also fourth in the discus and sixth in the long jump.


Masco Fifth at D2 Relays: Masco broke four school records and finished with 30 points to take fifth place at the D2 State Relays. The Chieftains set new school marks in the distance medley relay (10:55.72), the sprint medley relay (3:36.64), the javelin (4-34-11) and the 4x400 relay (3:29.69). The distance medley team (Dan Cosgrove, Jack Jennings, Kyle Faddis and Harry Kent) was second, the sprint medley team (Dan Raphael, Reagan Charie, David Drigo and Tristan Cluster) was second, the javelin team (Drigo, Kevin Bonanno and Chase O’Brien) was third and the 4x400 team (Cluster, Aidan Harte, Drigo and Raphael) was fifth. Masco’s high jump team of Kevin Martin, Connor Peacock and Faddis (16-10) also finished third at the meet.

Hamilton-WEnham 10th in D4: The Generals set a pair of school records, highlighted by the team of John Blatchford, Dan Allara, Matt Gillis and Michael Allara finishing second in the 4xmile in 18:54.51. Gillis, Bobby Grinnell, Blatchford and Michael Allara took fourth in a record 11:19.86 in the distance medley relay. Hamilton-Wenham was also third in the pole vault and the team took fifth in the long jump.

Ipswich places two teams: David Dick, Kyle Cantrell and Conrad Troller took first in the pole vault to highlight Ipswich’s day. Evan Sorger, Anthony Marini, Neil Coleman and Ryan Bahar placed fifth in the shuttle hurdles.


Peabody 5, Revere 0: Rachael Gillis (6-0, 6-0) topped first singles, Kayla Hodas won second singles (6-1, 6-1) and Dany Chhan (7-5, 6-4) captured third singles for Peabody (10-2). First doubles Anna Grimalyak/Eleni Petromelis (6-1, 6-1) and second doubles Tori Thompson/Alisa Pereira (6-2, 6-3) also picked up wins for the Tanners.
