---- — The 2014 MIAA Division 1 North Volleyball pairings were released last night and if St. John’s Prep wants to make its third straight North semifinal under head coach Scott Celli, the Eagles are going to have to upset the number one seed to get there.
St. John’s Prep (11-7) is the nine seed and will travel to face eighth seeded Haverhill (11-7) tomorrow with the match starting at 4 p.m. If the Eagles can win on the road against the Hillies, they will face undefeated Chelmsford (18-0) the top team in the North, in the quarterfinals.
The Prep hasn’t faced Haverhill this season but did square off against the Lions twice, winning only one of six games in those matches. Likewise, Haverhill and Chelmsford played twice with the Hillies winning just one of six games.
In Celli’s three seasons as head coach, the Eagles are 49-15 including the playoffs. Last year, SJP went 20-4 losing 3-1 to Lawrence in the North Finals. The year before, the Eagles were 18-4 losing to Methuen in the North Semifinals.
If St. John’s Prep is going to make a run this year, it’s going to need everyone to step up starting with captains Andrew Hall (senior middle hitter), Dimo Doulamis (senior outside hitter) and Ethan Talkov (junior middle hitter).
