St. John’s Prep senior Evan Dombrowski finished in the top spot in the shot put at Saturday’s All-State track meet held at Bridgewater State University.
Dombrowksi, who is to Brown University in the fall, had a throw of 56 feet nine inches to claim first in the shot. He also had a standout performance in the discus, placing sixth (143-0).
“The big thing about Evan is that he’s thrown the shot three feet further than any throwers we’ve had in the program,” said St. John’s Prep track coach Ray Carey. “He’s had immense influence on other kids in our program and has passed down his knowledge to them. We think an awful lot of him.”
Dombrowski is headed to New Englands this upcoming weekend and is hoping to become the New England champ in the shot put.
Also placing in the shot was Swampscott’s Justin Chasse (6th, 51-00), Peabody’s Anthony Christo (17th, 4604) and the Prep’s Vinnie LaRovere (19th, 46-03).
Swampscott’s Matt Mahoney was among the other top performers in the area, coming in 2nd place in the 2-mile with a stellar time of 9:05.97. Peabody’s Marcelo Rocha finished 10th in the event (9:38.17).
