In the final round of pool play, where run differential could be the tie-breaker, the Beverly all-star team left nothing up to chance.
Beverly blasted off against Gloucester American, scoring all 18 of its runs in the final four innings of an 18-4 win. With the victory, Beverly moved to 3-1 and advanced to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
Beverly will play Manchester-Essex today (5:30 p.m.) at Harry Ball Field in Beverly.
In addition to Manchester-Essex and Beverly, Amesbury will play Hamilton-Wenham today at Harry Ball (7:30 p.m.) and Middleton and Danvers American also advanced and await winners for games tomorrow.
Joey Ward (4 for 5) and Timmy McCarthy (2 for 4) each smashed grand slams to power the offense. Jon Gilbride added four hits and three runs, and Matt Cross produced three hits. Jack Cairns and Matt Collins also played well.
Beverly, trying to line up its pitching for the next portion of the tournament, split the hurling between Kyle Camara, Gilbride, Collins, Brayden Clark, and Ryan Barror.
